In what might come as a surprise to many, Microsoft has chosen to transform Fable Legends into a free-to-play experience. This is a big deal because anyone who has seen the game in action could tell that chances are not many players would throw $60 at the title.

Another sign that folks would not throw $60 at Fable Legends is the fact that it is a multiplayer team-based experience. Furthermore, the graphics are not anything to get excited about, but that doesn't mean it can't be a good game since good graphics is not more important than good gameplay.

For those who are not sure what Fable Legends is all about, let us attempt to break it down.

The game is multiplayer focused and quite similar to Evolve. Four players are tasked with the job of taking down a single-player villain, but that is where the Evolve similarities end.

The villain in this game has the ability to summon an army of creatures to fight, so this makes it difficult for the 4-player team to get the drop. What's more interesting is how the villain controls the field of play. The whole thing comes off similar to League of Legends, in a good way.

From what we can tell from the gameplay, playing as the villain would fit players on the PC more due to the keyboard and mouse gameplay while playing as the heroes would fit much better for Xbox One players. We can only hope playing as the villain on the Xbox One is smooth going with a controller because many players could refuse the villain role, causing the game to wither and die.

Fable Legends is an enormous risk on the part of LionHead Studios. The title is not that similar to older Fable games in the franchise, and this is troubling to hundreds of fans. Because of this, the studio now has the daunting task of trying to tell gamers what Fable Legends is, and so far, the company is failing to get its words across.

The beta is coming up, the perfect time for LionHead and Microsoft to get Xbox One and PC players excited, because right now, players are on the fence hoping the game isn't as terrible as it looks. And yes, it does look awful from all accounts, but anything is possible at this point so that it could surprise us.
