Have deer in Mississippi been visited by alien beings? Or has a government drone been spying on the activities of grassland Cervidae?

Rainer and Edith Shattles live on 150 acres of land in Jackson County, Mississippi. Automatic infrared cameras on their property snap pictures of deer at night. On 16 February, images showed strange lights appearing as deer walked in the forested area. After a few minutes, a rising glow resolved into a distinct pair of lights, resembling headlights, apparently floating above the ground.

"We have unusual things happen around here that happen, but it's usually associated with our grandchildren. But this case, we didn't know what it was. I was looking for a nice buck to be showing up on the trail camera actually," Edith told local television station WLOX.

An image taken at 7:24 shows deep behaving normally in the wild. A dim light first appears five minutes later. Withing six minutes, the light brightened, and at 7:53, a strange object is visible. A second light first appeared on an image taken at 7:56. The pair appeared to draw closer to the animals, and a spotlight seemed to spotlight the animals. The pair of lights then disappeared.

Social media and UFO enthusiasts went wild, claiming the photos are evidence of an alien visit.

In October 1973, a pair of Mississippi men claimed they were abducted by a UFO while they were fishing in Pascagoula. The incident is often cited as an example of a real-life close encounter of the third kind.

There is no road or passage for a car that could explain the positioning of the features as headlights. No roads are even positioned nearby that could have cars anywhere near the field of the image. Even in the open field where the game camera is positioned, there is no evidence of the presence of a motor vehicle, such as tire tracks.

So far, no one has been able to adequately explain the lights seen on the images. The camera takes pictures in infrared, so it does not use light.

The first UFO sighting in modern history was made by Kenneth Arnold in 1947.

"Well, if it's alien, I'm not sure about that. But it's definitely a UFO. Now whether it's a government drone or what, I wish if nothing else, one of them would step up and say, 'Yes, that's ours,'" Rainer told the station.

The couple is asking friends and the public to try to decipher what may have caused the unusual sighting.
