More carriers and regions are now releasing the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 and its variants. Both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and its offshoot, the Galaxy S5 Active, are set to receive new Android 5.0 Lollipop updates shortly.

As we recently reported, Samsung reached a milestone in the U.S. recently, when all five major carriers — Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S Cellular — all released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the company's former flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. Other international territories also saw recent updates to the device, including Italy, Croatia, Ireland, New Zealand, Indonesia and Colombia.

Other regions have been lagging behind in receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, and one of those regions is Australia. Now, one of Australia's major carriers, Telstra, has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S5 update has officially moved into carrier testing, with an expected release of the update on June 1.

In addition, Canada is set to see the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on the Galaxy S5 Active, the more rugged variant of the former flagship. Rogers just posted its latest software update release schedule, and it looks like the update is heading to owners of the sporty S5 variant this month. This should please users who were frustrated with the carrier when, in April, it officially announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop update was coming to the Galaxy S5 Active soon and then suddenly removed the message from its website with no explanation.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active already received its Android 5.0 Lollipop update in the U.S., where it is an exclusive variant on the AT&T network. The newest "Active" variant set to be released shortly is Samsung's Galaxy S6 Active. Recent images that leaked online show the smartphone having more in common design-wise with the older S5 than the just-released S6, which has a premium glass and metal design, but lacks some of the S5 features, such as a removable battery, microSD expansion slot and waterproofing. The S6 Active is expected to return those features and run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
