Business owners expecting to update their systems to Windows 8.1 Update via WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) are out of luck, as Microsoft chose to suspend the update due to a bug. The bug in question has the ability to prevent devices from recognizing future updates, so Microsoft's goal right now is to fix the issue before making the update available.

What is WSUS, you ask? Well, it is a Microsoft update service for corporate use, and it is used by information technology staffs to manage security patches, bug fixes, and other updates for Windows devices on a secured corporate network.

It's not a serious bug, so it should not take Microsoft a great deal of time to get it fixed, and to roll out Windows 8.1 Update to business customers around the world.

"There is a known issue which causes some PCs updated with the Windows 8.1 Update to stop scanning against Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 (WSUS 3.0 SP2 or WSUS 3.2) servers which are configured to use SSL and have not enabled TLS 1.2," Microsoft wrote on its blog.

According to Microsoft, the issue will only affect Windows Server Update Service version 3.2 running on Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with HTTPS and SSL enabled, however, TLS 1.2 was not.

In recent times, Microsoft has been making serious blunders where updates are concerned. The company has released several flawed updates in the last 12 months; one in particular wiped clean Outlook 2013's folder. In addition, another bug repeatedly asked customers to install certain features, even after they have been deployed.

Microsoft has been destroying its record of releasing bug-free updates, and it does not appear if the software company is ready clean up its act.

"Microsoft plans to issue an update as soon as possible that will correct the issue and restore the proper behavior for Windows 8.1 Update KB 2919355 scanning against all supported WSUS configurations. Until that time, we are delaying the distribution of the Windows 8.1 Update KB 2919355 to WSUS servers," says Microsoft.
