Nintendo has amped the cuteness level of Yoshi's Woolly World with the addition of support for dozens of Amiibo figurines that will let players dress up their favorite fuzzy dinosaur in more than 40 costumes from the Nintendo universe.

The game company's European arm announced over Twitter that players will be able to change Yoshi's skin simply by tapping any of the NFC-enabled Amiibo figurines into their game pad.

Nintendo has released a short teaser showcasing just how this will work. In the 30-second video, one will see Yoshi and his brightly colored dinosaur friends dressed up as Link, Donkey Kong and Mario (complete with Mario's mustache), but plenty of characters will also be supported, including Zelda, Pac-Man, Bowser Jr., Captain Falcon and everyone's favorite sidekick Luigi.

However, a number of characters will not be supported, including Toad and every single one of the Pokémon. Nintendo has made no explanation as to why it has decided to leave out those popular characters.

The announcement makes Yoshi's Woolly World one of the best Nintendo games to come with Amiibo support. Nintendo already revealed that the side-scrolling platformer game will also come with its own Yarn Yoshi, a new line of three Amiibo figurines made from knitted green, pink and blue yarn to match the game's down-covered aesthetics. Tapping the Yarn Yoshi will bring up Double Yoshi, or two characters that can be played at once, thus duplicating two-player mode.

Yoshi's Woolly World, which is developed by Good-Feel for the Nintendo Wii U, will become available in Europe and Australia on June 26, although no release date has been announced yet for the U.S.

Although the game appears all light and cutesy, there is actually more to it than meets the eye, according to Eurogamer, which has obtained a preview copy of the game before release.

"Just like its knitted Amiibo companions, 'Yoshi's Woolly World' offers a charming exterior that covers a solid structure and plenty of technology—but there's more to the game than its soft and cutesy looks," said Tom Phillips.

Just like in Yoshi's Island, Yoshi will be able to flutter-jump to hard-to-reach areas and swallow his enemies to produce balls of yarn to accomplish various objectives, such as tying up enemies.

Players will also see familiar elements of Good-Feel's Yoshi creations, including flowers and mystery clouds, but will also see new items, such as white chicks that produce temporary cloud platforms. There will also be a Mellow Mode, which will give Yoshi wings to let him float around through the platforms to tone down the difficulty level.
