It is official: Microsoft has revealed when users can download Windows 10. The software maker's personal digital assistant made the official announcement on the Windows blog.

"Windows will be available on July 29 but you can reserve a copy now. Can't wait to be in your PC," Cortana announced.

Over the weekend rumors started to spread that Windows 10 will launch on Aug. 31, with the Home version being offered at $110 and the Pro edition priced at $150, according to a listing from online electronics retailer Newegg. The Windows watchdogs over at WinSuperSite spotted the pair of curios Windows 10 listings on Newegg.

The pricing is also intriguing, as Microsoft has said that Windows 10 will be offered as a free upgrade for users of legitimate copies of previous versions of Windows. Holders of licenses for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone are eligible to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

If the prices listed on Newegg are correct, then we know what the operating system will cost everyone—except of course holders of pirated copies of Windows. Microsoft has slowly been detailing its plans to bring all Windows users up to date with Windows 10, starting with the announcement detailing the OS's free upgrade program.

"It is our intent that most of these devices will qualify, but some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device." said Microsoft. "The availability of the Windows Phone upgrade may vary by OEM, mobile operator, or carrier."

Microsoft did not disclose the official pricing details of the latest Windows version but reiterated the free upgrade for qualified users.

"On July 29, you can get Windows 10 for PCs and tablets by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer, or on a new Windows 10 PC from your favorite retailer. If you purchase a new Windows 8.1 device between now and then, the Windows 10 upgrade will be available to you and many retail stores will upgrade your new device for you," Microsoft stated.
