This year's Google I/O conference, which took place on May 28, saw the introduction of Google's next-generation Android M OS. Android M introduces native support for fingerprint recognition, which also takes advantage of Google's new Apple Pay competitor in the form of Android Pay, which allows users to authenticate purchases with their fingertips, in addition to unlocking their devices.

Google also added a new feature to ensure long battery life, which reduces a smartphone or tablet's background activity when the device is not in use. The company has already released preview builds of Android M for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 tablet and Nexus player.
