More than 70 million people are already playing Fallout Shelter on their iPhones and iPads, but millions more of Android users are left wanting as Bethesda still works on a version of the game for the Google platform.

The situation, however, appears to be changing soon, and by soon we mean as early as next month. Bethesda's vice president of marketing and public relations Pete Hines himself announced on Twitter that Android users should be able to start overseeing their vaults in August.

Speaking to an Android user who asked about the game's Android release, Hines said everything was "coming along nice," although he declined to provide specific details about when exactly we could expect the game to come to Android, so it could be anywhere from the start of August up to the month's last day. It is also possible that Bethesda pushes it back to September if something comes up in the way of the game's Android release.

Following the unveiling of Fallout Shelter at Bethesda's E3 press briefing earlier this month and the game's release for iOS on the same day, the game publisher's first foray into mobile games immediately shot to the top of the Apple App Store charts. Within a couple of weeks, Fallout Shelter has become the most downloaded game in 45 countries and the most downloaded app in 28 markets.

Fallout Shelter is actually more of a bonus as gamers wait for the release of Fallout 4, the latest title in Bethesda's highly successful Fallout franchise, set to take place on Nov. 10 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Nevertheless, the game appears to be generating quite a lot of money for Bethesda through in-game micro-transactions. Fallout Shelter is already the third-biggest revenue-making game in the App Store, just behind Clash of Clans and Game of War.

Set in the same post-nuclear attack world as the Fallout titles, Fallout Shelter lets players create their own nuclear shelters, also called vaults, and manage the dwellers of those vaults. As overseers of their vaults, they are responsible for rescuing people from the wasteland, encouraging the creation of more dwellers via natural processes, managing resources, and in general keeping each vault dweller happy and productive.
