Bethesda Game Studios' Fallout Shelter, which was only previously available for iOS devices, will be launched for Android devices on Aug. 13.

Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play game for mobile devices that allows players to take the role of a Vault Overseer in the world of Fallout. Players can build out their Vaults in any way that they want, and they can assign the inhabitants of the Vaults called Dwellers to different duties within the community. The player is also assigned to protect Dwellers from the hazards that could come from both outside and inside their Vault.

Bethesda confirmed through its Twitter account that the highly-anticipated Android version of the game is going to be launched on Aug. 13, which will allow Android device users to play the addictive game.

There is no paywall to Fallout Shelter, but the title was able to amass revenue of $5.1 million in just the first two weeks since the game was launched for the iOS.

Fallout Shelter is a tower-style, town management game, and upon logging into the title for the first time, players are given a small number of Dwellers. The most basic things to manage are food and water purification, to keep the Dwellers alive, and power, so that the Vault will be able to continue producing these resources.

The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. statistics system made popular by Fallout returns to Fallout Shelter. Dwellers with higher levels of a certain statistic will improve the efficiency of certain rooms better.

Rooms can be upgraded twice, and as the population of the Vault increases, the gamer gains access to even more kinds of rooms.

Other aspects of the game that users will have to manage include population control, money creation and maintaining the Dwellers happy.

Among the factors contributing to the popularity of Fallout Shelter is the mobile game's graphics, as 2D characters are painted upon a 3D environment, leading to very imaginative art which is just as lively as all the characters that live in the gamer's Vault.

Gameplay for Fallout Shelter is simple enough to understand but deep enough to pull in gamers with 10 hours to 12 hours of gameplay.

Helping the game's popularity is that it does not require a constant connection to the Internet while playing the game.

Fallout Shelter is a spinoff of the post-apocalyptic Fallout series of Bethesda, and aims to please fans of the franchise. However, it can still prove to be an enjoyable experience for users that are new to Fallout.
