Microsoft had recently released several updates for Windows 10 Build 10240 and, unfortunately, one of them is causing a problem. Fortunately, an official fix is underway and will be pushed out soon. For those who can't wait, there are a couple of workarounds that could be done in the meantime.

Windows 10 is due for an official release in a few days and updates leading up to the big day have been generally well-received. That is, until they start causing problems like the KB3074681, which leads Explorer to crash when certain tasks are carried out, like attempting to uninstall a program through Programs and Features > Uninstall or Change a Program or trying to disable an active network adapter.

Those who have tried to uninstall the update have failed because doing so requires accessing Programs and Features > Uninstall or Change a Program, which causes Explorer to crash. When Explorer does crash though, it restarts immediately and brings a user back to their desktop without losing any data from open programs.

There are two workarounds for the crash, both of which will essentially uninstall the update. First, within the Programs and Features > Uninstall or Change a Program Control Panel, select the program but don't double-click it. That will start the uninstall process and initiate a crash. Instead, click on the program just once to choose it then hit the Uninstall button at the top.

Second, users can go a different way via the Settings > System > Apps & Features way to remove the program from the computer system.

If a crash is related to a network adapter being disabled, the same process applies--just choose the adapter from the list and click on the Disable button towards the top.

Aside from confirming that a fix to KB3074681 is on its way, Microsoft also released a series of images for backgrounds and lock screens mashing up an image of the ninja cat and her trusty steeds. Ninja cat was modeled after the origin work of Jason Heuser.

"While the ninja cat started out as just a fun little internal joke, it's been pretty neat to see our Windows Insiders and Windows and Microsoft fans really enjoying our version of it," said Gabe Aul.

Links were provided so anyone can download the mash-ups. Available resolutions were based on information gathered from the Windows Insider Program.
