A new report appears to confirm when Google will unveil its next-generation flagship smartphones. The LG and Huawei Nexus will reportedly become official at a Sept. 29 press event in San Francisco.

September is shaping up to be a busy month for smartphone launches. HTC has announced it will unveil a new flagship smartphone on Sept. 6, and that device is expected to be the HTC One A9. HTC's invite teases the device will be a "superior handsome" flagship smartphone, and based on recently-leaked images, HTC's interpretation of "handsome" is Apple's iPhone 6 Plus design.

Apple will launch the successors to the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 at an event three days after HTC's event. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus will feature the same design as its predecessors but include Force Touch displays, 64-bit A9 processors, 2 GB of RAM and 12 megapixel rear cameras that will be capable of recording 4K video. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus will also be the first devices to ship with iOS 9 out of the box.

Google will counter Apple's iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with a new flagship smartphone and phablet of its own in the form of the LG-built Nexus 5 (2015) and Huawei phablet. The pair will also be the first devices to ship with the latest version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

We recently reported that Google was planning to launch its new Nexus smartphone and phablet on Sept. 29, and a new report from CNET appears to back up those claims.

According to CNET, Google has scheduled a press event on Sept. 29 in San Francisco to unveil its LG Nexus smartphone and Huawei Nexus phablet, although a Google spokeswoman declined to comment on the report.

We'll likely hear something official from Google as we get closer to the event. Are you planning to buy Google's upcoming flagship Nexus smartphone or phablet? Let us know in the comments below.
