When Destiny's hotly anticipated mega-DLC The Taken King drops on September 15, the big Raid that's part of it won't be in the initial download package.

Everybody knows that the Raids are where Destiny's true story unfolds. It's where Bungie puts its most innovative, challenging and downright devious levels. It's where players fight the big villain — and hopefully, defeat him. Raids can take hours to complete, and the difficulty is ratcheted up so high that solo play isn't just discouraged — it's punished.

"King's Fall," as The Taken King's Raid is called, is the cornerstone of the DLC's story. The entire content pack culminates in "King's Fall," since it's where you and your team will take on Oryx himself. However, Bungie has refused to give a release date for it when talking about The Taken King, until now.

Today, Bungie hosted a livestream focusing on the strategy-focused new mode called "Court of Oryx." At the end of that broadcast, a short glimpse of "King's Fall" was shown, and its release date was finally revealed: September 18.

That's three days after The Taken King drops. Bungie still wants all aspects of the Raid to surprise and delight players, but it was revealed that its setting is in Oryx's vast Hive Dreadnaught starship, in an area deeper inside the vessel than any of the story campaign levels or Strikes will give you access to. It also suggests that defeating Oryx won't be the end goal of "King's Fall," that there's much more to come after that's done. It promises to be the biggest Raid in Destiny yet.

Stay tuned for more news about Destiny: The Taken King as it's announced. Here's the teaser that aired during the livestream.
