Samsung is apparently busy working on Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 sequels, according to an exclusive new report.

The company stirred plenty of interest with its Galaxy A series of smartphones, particularly due to the handsets' metal designs. Samsung received lots of criticism over the years for its love of plastic, offering even its high-end flagships with polycarbonate (plastic) bodies.

The Galaxy Alpha was the first one to break Samsung's bonds with plastic, sporting a metal edge, and others followed afterwards. The Galaxy A series, however, introduced a premium all-metal design, which was something new for Samsung's Galaxy lineup.

The Galaxy A series consisted of the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7, combining a premium metal design with mid-range specifications. The Galaxy A7 (pictured above) is the highest-end of the trio. Despite the initial interest, however, none of the three smartphones in the Galaxy A series proved to be a smashing hit.

Samsung recently added another member to the lineup, launching the impressively-thin Galaxy A8 mid-ranger, and the company is now working on new sequels to the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 as well.

SamMobile exclusively reports that Samsung has already started working on these sequels, but only their respective model numbers surfaced at this point. The company is reportedly working on SM-A310F, SM-A510F and SM-A710F handsets for Russia, and SM-A5100 and SM-A7100 for China. As a reminder, the existing Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 launched with model numbers SM-A300, SM-A500 and SM-A700, respectively.

The new model numbers appear to be only slight variations of the model numbers the original smartphones carried, which indicates that the sequels may not boast any dramatic changes. The latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow should be part of the package, but no solid information is available at this point.

It also remains to be seen just what specifications these three smartphones will have to offer, or what their official names will be when they launch. Samsung has yet to offer any information on future plans for its Galaxy A series, so it's all in the rumor state at this point. As always with unconfirmed news, it's best to take all reports and leaks with a grain of salt.
