Announced today at Google's latest press event, alongside new Nexus smartphones, was the long-awaited news of when Android M, aka "Marshmallow," will be ready for public consumption. So when's it coming?

"Next week," according to Google's spokesperson. Specifically, it will become available on newer Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9 and the Nexus Player. Some news outlets are reporting that it will kick off on Oct. 5.

Presumably, other Android phones with current tech specs will also gain access to Marshmallow, the latest version of the mobile operating system, Android 6.0, in October.
