If you haven't played "The Last of Us" for PlayStation 3, a "transformative" game awaits you on the PlayStation 4, according to one of the designers.

Sony previously revealed that this new version of the game will run at a higher resolution, with more detailed characters, better lighting and shadows. And now it is revealed by the Sony-owned developer behind the game that "The Last of Us Remastered" is also going to run at a higher framerate on PlayStation 4.

"Played some #TLOU at 60 fps tonight for the first time (60fps cutscenes and all). Transformitive. I'm a believer. Don't think I can go back," Kurt Margenau, a designer of the game's developer Naughty Dog, tweeted out.

"I had a dream in 60fps last night. #TLOUremastered," "The Last of Us Remastered" co-director Bruce Straley said.

"What if I told you that was no dream? #believe," "The Last of Us" creative director Neil Druckmann then responded.

On the face of it, this is a group of developers just patting their own backs for a technical achievement in improving the graphics of a game from the last generation to the standards of the latest generation. But "The Last of Us" is a critically-acclaimed experience, well-regarded not only for its graphics and action gameplay, but for its emotional storytelling. According to Sony, the game has accumulated more than 200 "Game of the Year" awards.

"The Last of Us" is the story of two survivors in a U.S. torn apart after the undead apocalypse. Joel is a veteran of the 20-year ordeal against the fungi-infected zombies, who is now charged with escorting Ellie, a 14-year old girl, across the country. Along the way they encounter the infected, bands of ruthless bandits, a variety of other travelers and the ruined cities of America.

Along with the original game remastered at a higher fidelity, there will be in-game commentary from the actors behind Joel and Ellie, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, as well as creative director Neil Druckmann. The game will also include the downloadable content from the PlayStation 3 version, including eight multiplayer maps from the Abandoned and Reclaimed Territory downloads and the single-player prequel "Left Behind," which features Ellie in events just before the game's single-player campaign begins.

"The Last of Us Remastered" will be released on PlayStation 4 on July 29.
