Consumers will have a new Windows Phone 8.1 phablet to consider. The Lumia 1525 will feature a 6-inch 1080p Full HD display and quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.

Apple will join Samsung and Nokia in announcing a new phablet. Apple's 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will join the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Nokia Lumia 1525 in the phablet arena. Apple is a new comer to this segment and will also introduce a larger 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in addition to the 5.5-inch model. Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet at IFA in Berlin in September.

Microsoft is reportedly getting ready to launch a follow up to last year's Nokia Lumia 1520. The Lumia 1525 will be very similar to its predecessor and feature some upgraded hardware to keep up with rivals. The 6-inch smartphone will also reportedly make its way to T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon.

"The Lumia 1525 from Nokia by Microsoft is a Windows Phone 8.1-powered 1520 with the SoC upgraded to a Snapdragon 801. Besides T-Mobile, it's also going to - wait for it, wait for it - AT&T and Verizon," posted evleaks on the tipster's site.

The smartphone will also be among the first to ship with Microsoft's new Windows Phone 8.1 OS that will be making its way to some Lumias in the near future. Windows Phone 8.1 offers some nice updates in terms of bringing Microsoft's smartphone OS on a more level playing field with Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

Windows Phone 8.1 introduces a personal assistant to the platform in the form of Cortana. The digital assistant is a combination of Google Now and Siri and is also joined by another popular Android and iOS feature. Windows Phone 8.1 will have a pull-down notification center where users can access notifications from calls, texts, emails and social updates, as well as quick access to common settings.

The Nokia Lumia 1525 is expected to feature the same a 6-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display and 20-megapixel rear camera found on its predecessor. It will use a faster quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor compared to the Snapdragon 800 processor found in the Lumia 1520.

The tipster hasn't revealed when we can expect to see the Nokia Lumia 1525 hit AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Once we hear anything, we'll pass it the news on.
