Everybody wants to rule Westeros, the nation at war in the HBO series "Game of Thrones." One fan decided to illustrate all the terrible things that have resulted from the struggle by various people to gain the throne by editing scenes and quotes from the television show to Lorde's cover of the Tears for Fears song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."
Characters from the fantasy series saying particularly relevant lines play along with the song to scenes of intrigue, war and killing from all four seasons of the HBO show. Lorde's darker and slower version of the '80s song works as a perfect accompaniment for the brutal drama.
The video by YouTube user jess9191 contains many spoilers for "Game of Thrones," so it is not recommended for anyone that is not completely caught up with all the seasons. Some of the deaths of major characters are simply shown, others are only implied by the images included. So while the video does not work as a complete rundown of every major death, it does give you the feeling of the consequences for everyone's pursuit for power.
The "Game of Thrones" series on HBO is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin's gritty fantasy novels "A Song of Ice and Fire," which currently totals five books and is expected to run until seven or possibly eight novels. Martin is currently writing the sixth novel, "The Winds of Winter." The book will likely be released in 2015 or 2016, considering the pressure Martin must be feeling to get the book out before the television show catches up.
The television series has aired four seasons so far, though HBO has announced there will be a fifth and sixth season. The fifth season is expected to premiere in March or April of 2015.
This cover of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" appeared on the soundtrack for "Catching Fire," a film adaptation of the second book in "The Hunger Games" trilogy. The song was also used to great effect in the teaser for the upcoming Ubisoft game Assassin's Creed Unity, which is set during the French Revolution.
