Warning: It's impossible to discuss the ending of Man of Steel without revealing what happens, so - SPOILER ALERT.

To say that the ending of Man of Steel was divisive is a massive understatement. Purist fans were up in arms almost immediately upon the film's release, while more casual fans were just sort of confused. Superman's a good guy, he's not supposed to kill anyone - and the film's grim, dark ending just didn't fit most people's preconceptions.

Superman snapping General Zod's neck during the finale scene of the film was a huge shock for everyone watching the movie. It was the first time fans had ever seen something like that from the Man of Steel, and it was a dark ending to a film that was already pretty bleak. As previously stated, the ending ignited plenty of controversy, and while it might not seem like much, it seems that fans' issues with Man of Steel's finale haven't gone unheard.

Badass Digest has revealed that an early draft of the script for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will directly address the ending of Man of Steel, and it won't just be a passing reference. Dialogue throughout the script mentions both Superman's killing of General Zod and the devastation to Metropolis on numerous occasions.

The first reference comes from the big man himself: Superman, when speaking to the film's mystery villain, says "I won't snap your neck, I'm going to take you to prison." This is, obviously, a direct reference to the first film's conclusion, though Superman reportedly threatens to break the villain's back in a later scene. It seems that Supes isn't quite over his anger issues quite yet...

The second reference comes from General Swanwick, who addresses military leaders on Superman's location: "Superman will move the battle away from populated areas because he's a hero, and that's what heroes do." Again, it's an on-the-nose reference to the destruction of Metropolis at the end of Man of Steel, and from what the script says, it sounds like city-wide devastation won't be featured quite as prominently in Batman v. Superman.

There are other notes in the reveal, such as the film's brief glimpse at Batman's origins during the opening and the international ramifications of Superman's presence, but the movie still has a long way to go before it's finished. Between now and its release date, Batman v. Superman's story could change - or, it may have already changed, especially the dialogue. Until the movie hits next year, there's no way to know for sure.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will debut in theaters March 26, 2015.
