Perdue Foods has issued a recall of a number of their ready-to-eat chicken products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Friday, May 31.
Chicken Recall
The USDA reported that the company based in Bridgewater, Virgina is recalling a total of 31,703 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products due to possible contamination of extraneous material, specifically pieces of bone.
Consumer complaints brought the problems to the attention of the company and USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Produced on March 21, 2019, the fully cooked chicken products have been shipped to stores nationwide. All bear the establishment number "EST. P-369" in the USDA mark of inspection.
Products subject for recall include the following:
- 11.2-ounce Perdue Simply Smart Organics breaded chicken breast tenders - gluten-free to be used by May 20, 2019, with a UPC bar code of 072745-001437
- 12-ounce Perdue Simply Smart Organics breaded chicken breast nuggets - whole grain to be used by May 20, 2019, with a UPC bar code of 072745-001642
- 12-ounce Perdue Simply Smart Organics breaded chicken breast strips - whole grain to be used by May 20, 2019, with a UPC bar code of 072745-002656
- 10-pound bulk box of Chef Quik Breaded Chicken Tenders Boneless Tender Shaped Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat with the case code 22143
- 10-pound bulk box of Chef Quik Chicken Breast Strips Strip-Shaped Breaded Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat with the case code 77265
"There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products," the FSIS said in the statement, adding that consumers who are concerned about a related injury or illness should reach out to a healthcare provider.
FSIS also said that individuals who have purchased any of the products should throw away or return the product to the place where they purchased it. It should not be consumed.
Perdue's Third Recall Of 2019
It's still the first half of the year, but Perdue Foods is already on their third recall. In January 2019, the company issued a recall of their ready-to-eat chicken nugget products due to customer complaining of wood being found in these products.
Then, just a few weeks later, Perdue Foods voluntarily recalled 16,011 pounds or about 7,262 kilograms of their fun shapes chicken breast nuggets due to incorrect labeling.
"We are committed to producing the highest quality products, therefore, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to recall all affected products that were produced during the same production run," said Jeff Shaw, Perdue's vice president of Food Safety and Quality, in a statement on the latest recall.
