ANSHUN, CHINA - DECEMBER 15: (CHINA OUT) 'Left behind' child Luo Hongniu, 8, does homework by flashlight at the family's home on December 15, 2016 in Anshun, China. Like millions of Chinese children, the four Luo siblings are being raised by their grandparents in rural China as their parents left to find work in urban areas. While there are no official figures, a recent government report puts the number of 'left behind' children at nearly 10 million, though child welfare experts estimate the number to be closer to 60 million. In the case of the Luo grandparents, who are elderly and poor, they do what they can to meet the basic needs of four children between the ages of 5 and 11.

Over the past few month, ByteDance has successfully broken the internet -- thanks to TikTok.

And now, a recent product by the company is winning parents in China -- and it is not because of a trending video on social media. It is an actual lamp that enables them to see what their children are doing even from afar.

ByteDance Dali Smart Lamp

The Dali Smart Lamp has two surveillance cameras, which could easily connect to smartphones, Business Insider reported. The two cameras have separate functions. The first one is placed on the front of the lamp to capture the face of the child. While the other one, mounted on the top, is meant to oversee the student's work.

As such, parents, even tutors, can closely look out for their children or students.

Parents and their children could remotely talk through a lamp as big as an iPhone 12. The device also helps students to improve their vocabulary, and solve complex math problems as well, thanks to artificial intelligence.

Due to its features, the smart lamp has been a favorite among Chinese parents since its debut in October.

More specifically, the Chinese giant has already sold 10,000 units in the first month alone, Wall Street Journal noted.

SupChina adds, as per Business Insider, that the sales of the popular device have ballooned to $1.5 million every month. In response, China-based rivals are ramping up their production of similar lamps as well.

It turns out that the Chinese market has a profound indulgence with smart home devices with multiple cameras.

The Dali Smart Lamp is sold at $120. On the other hand, the pricier version, which alerts and send photos to parent when the child attempts to relax is sold at the tune of $170.

ByteDance and the Education Industry

The Chinese giant has joined the gaming industry and is attempting to compete with Clubhouse. Aside from that, it is also venturing into the educational tech line. The said sector rapidly expands as the pandemic has closed down schools.

The Dali Smart Lamp is under the ed-tech brand of ByteDance called Dali Education. Hence, the name. The company has hired 13,000 more people at the emerging division since the lamp has been launched. It only had 10,000 employees beforehand.
