Apple will expand its digital ID feature to more universities in the United States and roll out the feature in Canada as thousands of students are expected to return to school this year.
Students will be able to use a digital ID on their Apple Watch or iPhone so they can make purchases and do transactions safely.
Apple's Digital ID Roll Out
Canadian students can now add digital IDs to the Wallet app. The rollout will begin at the University of New Brunswick and Sheridan College, according to CNBC.
In the United States, a new batch of schools is set to adopt Apple's digital IDs, including Northern Arizona University, Auburn University, University of Maine, and New Mexico State University.
Jennifer Bailey, Apple's VP of Apple Pay, said they would work with more schools in the United States this year. They are preparing to introduce digital IDs in Canada to provide a more convenient and secure way to get around the campus.

Both the students and school faculty can use their devices as a way to access buildings, buy meals, recreation areas, and more.
A lot of universities are slowly moving away from traditional plastic cards and taking a digital approach to their ID programs, allowing students and staff to use digital IDs in Apple Wallet to complete their transactions that would have previously required a traditional ID.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of establishments to back away from traditional payment methods for health reasons, and digital IDs are the best way to pay for items without having to touch anything.
Ditching Plastic IDs
In April, CNET reported that students used their digital IDs more than plastic IDs to purchase and access buildings in their respective campuses.
This year, the University of Alabama will be the first university to discourage the use of plastic IDs and have all 38,000 students use digital IDs instead.
Jeanine Brooks, the Action Card director at the University of Alabama, said that the response from their community for the digital ID was overwhelmingly positive.
The transition began last year, and the change saved the university a lot of time and money as they no longer have to produce ID materials. Apple is also reportedly working on replacing driver's licenses and passports with digital IDs.
Students use digital IDs to access recreation centers, student events, residence halls, libraries, vending machines, and more.
Since the digital IDs are stored in their device, the number of lost ID cases decreased significantly.
Meanwhile, the University of New Brunswick is preparing to be the first university in Canada to offer the digital ID service.
Digital IDs are known for their flexibility, and they offer an extra level of security and privacy since they are stores on Apple devices. Students will no longer have to worry about misplaced IDs.
If you ever misplace your device, you can use the Find My app to lock your iPhone or Apple Watch and locate it, according to 9to5 Mac.
To enable the digital ID on your Apple Wallet, you will need to enter your campus credentials. Apple partnered with Transact, TouchNet, HID Global, Allegion, Atrium, and CBORD for broader transactions.
