AT&T has settled an agreement with the US Federal Trade Commission that if its customers experience data speed reduction, it would issue a refund to each of them.

The telecommunications company still needs to distribute millions of dollars to those people who have not yet received a refund.

If you're an AT&T user and you encounter data throttling issues on your end, here's what you need to know.

If you experienced data throttling with AT&T, you might $10 to $23 depending on your area.

According to a report by CNET, AT&T has already given refunds to other subscribers. The firm notified the users in their emails regarding the credit checks on their accounts. However, not all of them have received the money.

Based on the 2014 FTC lawsuit, nearly 4 million customers have encountered "throttling." Those who subscribed for unlimited plans noticed that data speeds were dropping when they reached a certain limit every month.

According to the FTC, some complaints involved an 80 % to 90% decrease in data speeds. The worst part about this is some people could not access web browsers and streaming websites anymore because of a very slow internet connection.

It should be noted that the company previously offered Unlimited Elite plans for some customers who want to access high-speed data. The plan won't penalize them if they exceed the monthly limit of data.

How to Know If You're Eligible For AT&T Refund

FTC clarifies that there are some requirements to consider before you conclude your eligibility for AT&T's $60 million refund.

To receive the money, you need to meet the following:

  • You encountered data throttling
  • You are a previous AT&T subscriber with an unlimited data plan (between October 1, 2011, and June 30, 2015).
  • You have not yet received a check from the company related to the throttling-related refund.

If you have gotten the credit from A&T, then you're not eligible anymore for the refund.

How Much Could You Receive From AT&T's Settlement

The refund will vary from one person to another, according to a spokesperson from FTC. Somehow, it could be between $10 and $23. It will depend on their current state.

How to Claim AT&T Refund

FTC says that eligible users can file an online claim in two ways. They can email info@ATTDataThrottling.com or dial 877-654-1982 for more details.

The submission for the claim will be valid until May 18, 2023. It's advisable to submit it as early as now to avoid potential interruptions on your end.

Meanwhile, A&T announced its plans to deliver fiber plans to over 9,000 customer locations in Charleston and Greenville.

According to Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina, this plan will bring high-speed internet to users, especially to those from rural areas.
