The iconic Doom first-person shooter is ready to make a comeback, as a new installment promises a hellish new experience for passionate gamers.
Doom was immensely popular and had a notable contribution in making the whole first-person shooter genre so popular, and will soon take things to the next level. The game studio behind the popular Doom, id Software, is now back with a new take on its demon-filled shooter for more gory action.
As teased at E3 2015, the next Doom installment will bring players back to hell, fighting a demon invasion. Gamers will play the role of a space marine who has to fight demons taking over a Mars research facility, as increasingly more demons crawl out of hell.
The new installment boasts amazing visuals with gory, graphic combats, spitting fire, tremendous amounts of blood, and everything you'd expect from a hellish Doom game.
The original Doom launched back in 1993, more than two decades ago, and is still considered one of the best first-person shooters of all times. The new iteration will carry on along the same lines, but will also aim to improve the experience with some neat new treats. The next Doom will feature a new multiplayer mode, for instance, as it will be the first game to use id Software's new "id tech 6" engine. A new level creator called Doom SnapMap, in addition to the single-player campaign game, will enhance the experience.
This SnapMap level creator will enable gamers to build their own maps by putting rooms and corridors together and setting their own objectives to customize their level. Players will also be able to share the game missions and levels they create online, so others can enjoy them as well. Modes such as Freeze Tag and Domination will also be in the mix, as expected, facilitating power-ups and vertical movement.
The new Doom installment is set to make its way to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, as well as the PC, targeting a spring 2016 launch. Id Software will likely enhance the experience even further until then, and it already looks quite promising, as seen in the trailer from publisher Bethesda Softworks.
