Doom 3: BFG Edition is now available for the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV and SHIELD Tablet, bringing the trilogy to Google Play.

Not too long ago, NVIDIA unleashed a native port of the popular Half-Life 2 for its SHIELD hardware. The company is now moving forward in pushing iconic games to its machines with the release of Doom 3: BFG Edition, putting the entire trilogy into a single package priced at $10.

While some Doom fans found various ways to hack, port and play the game on Android or some other platform, those methods were not official and didn't always provide the full experience. Doom games don't support touch screen input, but NVIDIA has made the necessary optimizations for Android-compatible game controllers.

Although a slew of new games with amazing graphics are currently available on the market, the old Doom title still has its own place and raises plenty of interest even now.

The new Doom 3: BFG Edition package consists of the original Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3, as well as the complete roster of expansions and collections developed and released over the years. This special edition comes from the same id Software team that developed the franchise.

"DOOM 3 BFG Edition features Achievements, improved rendering and lighting, and a new checkpoint save system allowing for smoother progression through the game. id has fine-tuned the controls bringing even more intensity to the DOOM 3 experience along with the addition of the new armor-mounted flashlight, players can now illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time," reads the description on Google Play.

The Lost Mission expansion pack is also in the mix, adding eight extra levels.

It's worth pointing out that since Doom games don't support touch screen input, gamers will need a controller to enjoy playing the trilogy. The NVIDIA SHIELD TV already comes with a controller, but the SHIELD Tablet does not. This means that gamers who want to play Doom 3 on the slate will have to purchase a controller separately from NVIDIA. Generic Bluetooth HID controllers will do the trick as well.

Doom 3: BFG Edition is not available for NVIDIA's original SHIELD Portable, nor for other Android devices. On the SHIELD TV and SHIELD Tablet, the trilogy requires 4GB of available storage.
