OnePlus better drop that new gadget—because many are revealing the details on its behalf. Here at Tech Times, we have compiled the latest updates on the alluring new OnePlus Mini.
According to the latest rumors—backed by some published photos—the OnePlus Mini is packed with a side touch screen and dual front-facing speakers.
Sounds familiar? It should. The Samsung Galaxy S6 prides itself on introducing side screens, so it looks like the mid-tier phone might be going after Samsung. The side screens on the OnePlus Mini will reportedly allow users to view and command basic apps such as messaging, calls and news without interrupting whatever they are looking at on the main screen.
As for the dual front-facing speakers, One Plus will be challenging the HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2. Front-facing speakers make sense, especially for those who love music streaming apps. Most smartphone makers place the speakers at the back to make way for bigger screens.
There are also speculations that the new OnePlus features NFC, a tap-and-go method of wireless data transfer used by Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Nintendo's Amiibo.
On a photo which surfaced from TENAA, China's telecommunications regulator, the OnePlus Mini looks sleek and elegant in black accented by its logo. The camera and other accessories blend perfectly with the back cover and do not stand out too much. The gadget is slim. If it's not from OnePlus, you'll probably worry about breaking it.
The OnePlus Mini is equipped with a 5-inch IPS 1,920 x 1,080 display, which should be covered in 2.5D Gorilla Glass.
Two, Not One?
Interestingly, after photos from China surfaced, another set of photos emerged from the Federal Communications Commision (FCC) in the United States.
While the phone in the previous images was sleek, slim and has a very minimalist design, the device in the FCC photos sports a matte gray back cover. A silver rectangular accent in the upper middle contains the camera and the flash. The speakers are now found at the bottom of the phone.
The second batch of images features a OnePlus-marked phone that looks entirely different from what was leaked from TENAA earlier. This gives rise to speculations that the OnePlus X is not just another name for the OnePlus Mini.
