Promotional items can relate to a movie, video game or in this case, an anime, in multiple ways.

Sometimes, it's a clever name. Other times, it's a fictional product made real. When it comes to promotional beverages and food, very rarely does the product endorsing a certain piece of entertainment have anything to actually do with said piece of entertainment.

That, however, isn't the case with this new batch of Attack on Titan plum wine. Yes, I said "new batch," because this isn't the first time there has been Attack on Titan-themed wine in Japan. It is, however, the first time the fruits used to make said wine have come from the family farm of Attack on Titan's creator.

As Anime News Network reports, the new batch of plum wine will be themed around the Scout Regiment characters Levi and Erwin. Levi's wine is made from oshuku plums, while Erwin's is made from nanko plums. Both wines are being released to promote the Attack on Titan: No Regrets OVA, where Levi meets Erwin for the first time. The bottles will go for around 2,000 yen (roughly $16 U.S. dollars).

Back to the part about the creator. The plums used come from Hajime Isayama's family farm in the village of Hibiki in Oyama, Oita, where Isayama grew up. The wine is also produced there.

That one fact takes what would otherwise be two completely unrelated beverage tie-ins with anime characters on them into a pair of promotional items that actually has some deeper meaning. That's not something you see every day.

If you are looking for more Attack on Titan news, U.S. comic creators will be taking a stab at the popular manga and anime series with their own anthology book. Oh, and Hajime Isayama recently said in an interview that he almost gave up on his idea for Attack on Titan. We are certainly glad he didn't.
