While there hasn't been much to talk about regarding a sequel to Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall, the franchise will soon be coming to mobile devices thanks to a new partnership between Respawn and free-to-play giant Nexon.

The two companies, along with development studio Particle City, will be teaming up to craft a series of free-to-play Titanfall mobile games, the first of which is slated to release in 2016.

This isn't the first time Respawn and Nexon have worked together. The two previously partnered up to bring Titanfall's PC multiplayer to the Asian market in the form of a free-to-play game. Particle City itself is co-founded by Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella, who will be serving as a creative advisor on the upcoming mobile games.

As for what these games will be like, few details are currently available. Zampella says (via Game Informer) they will be "original game experiences" and not first-person shooters like the original. Titanfall utilized a card system in which players could consume one-time use xp boosts or weapon upgrades that were then lost upon death. It very much felt like a system one could have found in a free-to-play game, but Respawn never opened it up so the cards could be purchased with real world cash.

Whether or not the mobile games in the franchise will use a similar system is still unknown. With the release of the franchise's first mobile game and what will likely be a reveal or at least official announcement of Titanfall 2, 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for the series. When Titanfall 2 does arrive, it will be appearing on Xbox One as well as PlayStation 4, unlike it's Microsoft exclusive predecessor.
