There's no denying that Sony is winning the current-gen console war. Between the failure of the Wii U and the botched marketing of the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 hasn't had much in the way of competition since it launched back in 2013. Then again, Sony's focus on gaming and listening to fan feedback also helped quite a bit, and it shows - the PlayStation 4 is the clear front-runner when it comes to the latest batch of gaming consoles, and the sales numbers prove it.

According to Sony's latest financial report (via NeoGAF), the company has sold 29.3 million PlayStation 4 consoles in less than two years. That's almost unheard of, especially for a console that hasn't dropped in price...and the overall sales numbers are just the start.

Assuming that the numbers are accurate, the PlayStation 4 has now eclipsed the PlayStation 2 as Sony's best-selling video game console, and now sits at the #2 spot overall (the Wii still sits at #1). What's amazing is that the PlayStation 4, in less than two years, has eclipsed the PlayStation 2's lifetime sales - it goes to show just how much the industry has grown in the past decade.

As for its competition, the PlayStation 4 doesn't have to worry about being overtaken any time soon: the Xbox One had sold just over 14 million units as of October 2015, while the Wii U comes in at 10.5 million (via VGChartz).

On top of its monumental sales numbers, Sony could have the biggest Christmas season out of anyone: despite its relatively weak exclusive lineup, Sony recently announced that the PlayStation 4 would receive a $50 price cut - just in time for the holiday shopping rush.
