Motorola makes a title of glory out of the sturdiness of its new handsets, and Droid Turbo 2 makes no exception.

What is more, the manufacturer claims that due to the advanced Shattershield technology, the Droid Turbo 2's display is guaranteed to resist cracks and shatters for as long as four years.

The solidity of the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 is due to the fact that the gadget is built with five layers of protection. First, we get a hard-coated exterior layer, secondly comes the crack and shatter-impervious layer. A dual touch layer follows, right before the shock-dampening display which is actually a flexible AMOLED. The aluminum chassis that grants rigidity comes last.

The overlay of structure and technology is visible in the video below, where the team from GizmoSlip conducted a face-down drop test, but they upped the ante: the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 gets 3 consecutive drops from a height of four feet (1.21 meters) and walks away with an intact display.

Multiple tests showcase how resilient the screen of the new Motorola handset is. One of them is captured on a Motorola sponsored video which demonstrates how various smartphones react to face-drop testing. Alongside Droid Turbo 2, the following handsets get a rough treatment: Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, HTC One M9 and Apple iPhone 6s.

All handsets received the same brutal test: an honest drop from a height of five feet (that's 1.5 meters for our European friends) onto a concrete and sandpaper surface. The only display that stoically resisted after the fall was the one on Motorola Droid Turbo 2.

Other, more radical tests, went so far as dropping the Droid Turbo 2 from 50 feet (15 meters). In a pleasant surprise, the shatterproof display came out almost unscathed, but the device no longer turned on.
An important thing to remember is that Motorola's durability refers to the screen alone. This means that even if you drop your device and the display is unscratched, the inside hardware might suffer some damage.

Verizon Wireless is the only carrier that offers the Droid Turbo 2 in the United States at the moment. An official release for Europe and Asia is expected, where the smartphone will be known as the Motorola Moto X Force.
