Another artistic legend has been plucked from this world after sharing his creativity and skill for decades. George Barris, the "King of the Kustomizers" who introduced some of the most iconic cars in television shows and movies, passed away in his sleep on Nov. 5 at 2:45 a.m. Barris was 89 years old.

Brett Barris, his son, made the announcement on Facebook and said that his father was surrounded by family when he passed on. He also thanked and expressed his appreciation to those who sent their condolences to their family.

"He would want everyone celebrate the passion he had for life and for what he created for all to enjoy," Brett wrote about his father.

George Barris certainly created many things that people enjoyed through the years and one of his most iconic creations is none other than the Batmobile from the 1966 television series. "15 days and (for) 15 grand" became Barris' challenge when he customized his highly successful Batmobile design from a Ford Lincoln Futura concept car that fell through. Prior to becoming the iconic black superhero car in the '60s, Barris painted the Futura red for the film "It Started with a Kiss" in 1959.

"George Barris was a true creative genius and we are saddened to learn of his passing. George's design contributions to the legendary 1966 Batmobile [...] left an indelible mark on Batman legacy and lore," DC Entertainment, creator of the Batman comics, wrote in a statement.

Barris also had other original car designs that many are familiar with. For starters, Barris designed another rich hero's car, "Black Beauty" from the show Green Hornet. The Munster family also rode one of his "koach" creations in the television sitcom The Munsters and Alvin the Chipmunk also got his Safety Car from the talented customizer.

Barris is survived by his two children.
