The people of Seattle expressed their support for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris by placing the French flag atop the world-famous Space Needle on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Dave Mandapat, a representative for the Space Needle, said displaying the iconic flag was the least that they could do to show solidarity with the French people following the tragic attacks on Friday, Nov. 13.

"This is not about us," Mandapat said. "This is what little we can do to show our support, concern and compassion."

Mandapat added that a special version of the French flag, measuring at around 25 feet in width and 35 feet in length, was made on the morning of Saturday so that it could be placed on the observation tower by the afternoon.

The French capital was rocked by a series of terrorist attacks that left around 129 people dead and 350 more wounded.

People from different parts of Seattle came together at La Parisienne Bakery in the neighborhood of Belltown to express their support for the citizens of Paris.

Mayor Ed Murray of Seattle joined the gathering of residents, which included offering a moment of silence for the victims and the singing of the French national anthem "La Marseillaise."

A spokesman for Mayor Murray said they wanted to give honor to the people of Paris affected by the terrorist attacks.

Aside from the Space Needle, other well-known landmarks in Seattle also showed their support by displaying the colors of the French flag.

Operators of the city's Great Ferris Wheel decorated the ride with the colors blue on its outside edge, white in its middle portion and red in its center.

City Hall was bathed in the colors of blue, white and red, while flags located outside the building were flown at half-mast.

Several businesses located in the state of Washington have also showed their solidarity, with coffee company Starbucks sending out a message of support for Paris and its citizens, and T-Mobile providing free call and text services to people in the United States who wish to get in touch with loved ones in France and Puerto Rico over the weekend.

The NFL team Seattle Seahawks will conduct a special ceremony when the team plays its Sunday night game.

U.S. and French flags will also be flown below helicopters by members of the state National Guard during the Seahawk's match.
