While most customers would be irated, and sometimes fuming mad, if they receive devices with manufacturing errors, this customer could actually be considered pretty lucky that Apple made a mistake in the iPad Pro that he received.

The iPad Pro, which was launched last week, comes with the usual three color choices of gold, silver and space gray. As with the rest of Apple's devices, the Touch ID ring in the gold model is gold, the one in the silver model is silver, and the one in the space gray model is black.

One reader of Apple news website 9to5Mac, however, received an iPad Pro with a different combination of colors.

In the image and video that the reader shared of the iPad Pro with the manufacturing error, a silver tablet is shown, but with gold Touch ID ring.

The tablet, which was acquired by the customer from AT&T, is a 128GB model with LTE capabilities. Aside from the different color for the Touch ID ring, everything else about the tablet, such as the color of its back and edges, are in line with the usual silver model.

The customer reached out to Apple to report the anomaly, and the company responded by stating that the gold Touch ID ring on the silver iPad Pro was the result of a manufacturing error that is very rare. If the customer wanted to have the iPad Pro replaced, he would have to go to AT&T for a replacement tablet though, instead of heading directly to Apple.

AT&T, meanwhile, told the customer when he contacted the carrier that the iPad Pro was the product of a rare production problem. The company even told the customer that the device could fetch him a good amount of money if he would put it up for auction.

9to5Mac said that it has not received any other reports of iPad Pro tablets with such a production error, which makes it more interesting to see how the manufacturing error came about.

And in case there are questions, the user said that he would not be putting up the unique iPad Pro for auction, deciding to hold on to the silver iPad Pro with gold Touch ID ring, in what would be a rare case of a manufacturing error that makes the device more endearing to the customer instead of making it troublesome.
