Shazam announced a new update on Monday that will now let users search for songs faster and more easily.

Shazam, which first launched in 2002, allows users to find out what artist and song is playing around them by pressing on a button. The app, which can can be used when hearing a good song that you don't know that is featured in a commercial or movie trailer, identifies the song by pulling up its information located in its own database after listening to a snippet.

Now, Shazam's Research and Development team has reworked the app's engine to make its audio identification speeds faster and more accurate.

"Our research team works continually to improve our recognition technology, and our latest release significantly reduces the amount of time required to get a result, making this our fastest Shazam experience ever," Shazam's CTO, Charles Henrich, said in a press release.

While finding out who sings that song you can't wait to download will be faster, users can also search directly in the app. Shazam previously allowed users to insert text to search; however, the update features the search icon directly on to the home page for quicker results.

Users can use the in-app search feature to discover more about a particular artist or song. Type in the name and you will now be able to listen to that musician's top track, watch music videos, get lyrics and follow the artist to see their own Shazam discoveries. Those who want to take advantage of the new search feature don't even need to sign up or subscribe.

Shazam also debuted its new Verified Artists feature, which includes more than 600 artists, including Coldplay, David Guetta and Maroon 5, who have more than two million followers collectively on the platform.

Shazam is free to download for iOS and Android.
