Sony has reduced the price of the Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone and now the handset is available at a discount of $100 on Amazon.

Sony unveiled its mid-ranged Xperia M4 Aqua at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in March this year. The Xperia M4 Aqua is based on the company Xperia Z line that features impressive specs.

"Xperia M4 Aqua represents our renewed mid-range focus - with no compromises" said Dennis van Schie, senior VP, Head of Sales and Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications. "Offering the most popular standout features made famous by our Xperia Z Series; camera capability, two-day battery life and waterproofing - Xperia M4 Aqua brings a proposition and price, products in this section of the market simply cannot match."

The original price of the 16GB Xperia M4 Aqua is $299.99 and other retailers such as Newegg are still selling the 16GB Xperia M4 Aqua for $299.99. However, Sony has confirmed via a tweet that it has reduced the price of the device to $199, only on Amazon.

The online retailer is selling the SIM unlocked version of the handset, which means customers do not have to tie themselves with a specific carrier. The Xperia M4 Aqua on offer by Amazon is only compatible on GSM networks.

"Compatible with GSM Networks including AT&T, T-Mobile and cellular network providers utilizing GSM network such as: Straight Talk, MetroPCS, Simple Mobile, Brightspot, Net10, h20 Wireless, and Cricket Wireless," per Amazon.

The phone is not compatible on CDMA networks such as US Cellular, Verizon and Sprint in the U.S.

The Xperia M4 Aqua sports a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM powers the Sony phone. The smartphone includes a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie camera.

The Sony device Aqua comes running on Android 5.0 Lollipop straight out of the box. Sony has confirmed that the mobile phone will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update; however, the company has not revealed the software update release date.

The Xperia M4 Aqua is one of the few mid-ranged handsets that carries the IP rating of IP65 and IP68, which means the mobile phone is waterproof and dustproof.
