Huawei has teased a new upcoming smartphone that houses a camera that is able to flip from the back to front.

The China-based OEM's Portugal division teased an image of the impending smartphone with the incredible camera capabilities on Facebook on Sunday, Nov. 29.

The image shows a white metal-based smartphone with a camera on its top right. The camera is shown flipping down from the front of the device to its rear. The photo was accompanied by the following message:

"And if your cell phone only had a camera? A unique and powerful camera... Even where I'd take your photos? (translated)" teased Huawei Device Portugal on Facebook.

The intriguing smartphone hints at a handset that will be capable of taking high resolution images - especially selfies. The notion of a camera that can swivel is not unusual and the idea has already been executed by Oppo. The Oppo N1 packs in a 13MP camera that is able to rotate, which enables users to take selfies with it as well.

Recently, we reported that renders of the ZUK Z2 smartphone had emerged online and also pointed to a fully-rotatable camera for the smartphone. A single camera which would double up as both the primary and the selfie snapper.

Huawei Device Portugal did not disclose any other details on the impending smartphone or the capabilities of the handset's camera.

Huawei is making steady inroads into the consumer space and is fast gaining popularity with Android users worldwide. Per Gartner Inc., the research firm, Huawei accounted for the maximum gain in the global smartphone market share from July to September i.e. Q3 2015. The OEM has 7.7 percent of the pie in Q3 2015. By comparison, in Q3 2014 Huawei accounted for 5.2 percent of the share.

Huawei has the distinction of being the third biggest smartphone manufacturer (after Samsung and Apple), and it continues to cement its position in the market by introducing new top-end devices like the Kirin 950 chipset-powered Huawei Mate 8.

Whether Huawei's attempt to cash-in on the selfie obsessed generation with its new flippable camera smartphone remains to be seen.
