We already have Marty McFly's self-lacing shoes from Back to the Future, and now it seems as though we'll have his self-drying jacket from BTTF2 as well.
While the Nike shoes unveiled earlier in the year are aimed at being a perfect replica of the shoes in the movie, the jacket is more about the idea, not including the adjusting sleeves seen in the movie but adding inside pockets to hold a smartphone and tablet. The drying mechanism, however, is there—the drying is done through two blowers that pump air through exhaust vents close to the collar.
The jacket has to be charged, and a full charge can pump air through the jacket for 30 minutes, although the creators of jacket, called SDJ-01, found that the jacket was noticeably dryer after only one minute of drying.
The battery is rechargeable, and is located in a power cell in an interior pocket. Users can plug in the jacket, using the 6-foot long charging cable that's included, or they can remove the battery from the pocket to charge it separately.
Of course, the fans in the jacket can be used for more than just drying the jacket. For example, if you find yourself in a crowd of sweaty people, simply activate the fans, and the crowd around you will thank you.
The water-resistant jacket is currently being funded on Kickstarter, having raised $4,733 of the $12,000 funding goal at the time of this writing, with 21 days to go. Those interested in the jacket can head to the Kickstarter page, where they will need to pay $149 or more, depending on how many early bird specials are still available.
The jacket, which comes in four colors and a special limited edition two-tone color from the movie, is expected to ship by April 2016.
