Samsung launched a new app that caters to the needs of gamers who own Galaxy smartphones, as it allows users to turn their displays into virtual gamepads.

The S Console Gamepad works in tandem with the larger-screen Galaxy View tablet, and should help players get a better experience from the generous screen of the Samsung slate.

The app provides six customizable gamepad templates that enhance the way in which you play a variety of genres, from racing to RPGs and from shooters to adventure. Users can move the buttons around to their liking and create personalized layouts for the controller.

The Samsung-exclusive app works with more than 100 popular games, and is really easy to start enjoying them. Simply download the app, turn you handset's Bluetooth on and start playing the games of your choice.

As a reminder, the Galaxy View offers a screen with 1080p resolution and a 18.4-in diagonal, but this brings some measurements to match. Its dimensions are 177x108x4.6-in and it weighs over 5 pounds, making it rather bulky. Behind the leviathan display sits an eight-core Exynos 7580 chip running at 1.6GHz which is backed by 2GB of RAM. The 8 hour lasting battery means that you get to play for a while before having to use the dedicated power charger. There is also a microSD slot that allows you to extend the 32 GB of default storage memory, if you feel like it. Android 5.1 Lollipop is the OS that powers the device.

The Galaxy View is not just the largest tablet out there, but it is one of the high priced slates, too. Its selling point is $600, and for the invested money buyers could buy a portable tablet and a small TV.

It is slightly disappointing that Samsung restricted the S Console Gamepad compatibility only to its handsets, as the Android market is a huge place. Another dissatisfactory element is that the South Korean OEM did not provide a list of games that can be enjoyed by using the S Console Gamepad - Galaxy View combo.
