Canadian author Margaret Atwood, the author of crossover classics like The Handmaid's Tale, The Blind Asssassin, and Oryx and Crake, has teamed up with publisher Dark Horse Comics to pen and publish a graphic novel.

The graphic novel, titled Angel Catbird, marks the novelist, poet, literary critic, and environmental activist's first foray into the realm of comics. Known primarily for her propensity for meshing high literature with tropes, imagery, and themes usually found in genre fiction, the sci-fi, magical realism, and fantasy found in the realm of traditional comics isn't much of a stone's throw for the author.

As for what Angel Catbird is about?

"I have concocted a superhero who is part cat, part bird. Due to some spilled genetic Super-Splicer, our hero got tangled up with both a cat and an owl; hence his fur and feathers, and his identity problems," said Atwood in a press statement released by the publisher.

Atwood will also be joined by comics artist Johnnie Christmas, best known for his work on the Image Comics series Sheltered.

"It's tremendously exciting to work with one of the great contemporary novelists," added Christmas. "I can't wait for readers to experience the world of Angel Catbird that we're building. It's got warmth, heart, humor, and lots of action."

The artist also shared his excitement to work with the renowned Booker Prize-winner on Twitter.

According to Dark Horse, Angel Catbird will be released in three volumes beginning in 2016, with each 6x9-inch full-color trade paperback priced at $10.99.
