Fable Legends open beta will not launch for the holidays as previously promised, as developer Lionhead Studios announced that it pushed back the release to Spring 2016.

The game has been in closed beta for a while now and it was supposed to launch in open beta within the next few days, but the developer now reckoned that it misestimated the game's size and it has some more work to do before the release.

Nevertheless, 100,000 more gamers will be able to join the closed beta in the coming weeks. With the open beta now pushed back a few months, Lionhead Studios wants to make Fable Legends even better, adding more improvements based on user feedback.

Lionhead Studios acknowledged that it failed to anticipate just how big the game is becoming.

"It's simply the most ambitious game we've ever created at Lionhead," said the developer. "We've built a unique and innovative multiplayer experience combining RPG and RTS gameplay which allows you to play, and use your gear seamlessly, across Xbox One and Windows 10. On top of this, we've built a beautiful new world full of grand stories and adventures. And it's taking more time than we thought."

While this may be disappointing news for some, probably all gamers can agree that it's better to wait and release a game with everything working properly than to rush it to market before it's ready for primetime. Too many games already launched with nasty glitches ruining the experience, so waiting a bit longer may be preferable.

The closed beta, meanwhile, has been running in full force for those who joined and has already received a number of updates aiming to enhance the experience. The developer added heroes, creatures, quests and more, and it will continue to improve the game.

Some "hundreds of thousands" of players enrolled in the Fable Legends closed beta so far, according to Lionhead Studios, and the extra 100,000 gamers to be added soon will further contribute to polishing the game and making it better.

Other than the vague "Spring 2016" timeframe, however, Lionhead Studios did not give any other details as to when Fable Legends open beta will finally kick off. This means that no exact release date is available at this point, but more information should come to light as the developer makes progress with the game and gets closer to launch.

In the meantime, interested gamers can sign up for the multiplayer closed beta on Fable Legends' website. For more information and to get a better ideas of what it's all about, check out the video below.
