Sony unveiled the A68 camera for the European markets in November 2015 and now the Japanese company has also announced the camera for the American and Canadian markets.

On Thursday, Dec. 17, Sony announced that its A68 will be available in the U.S. and Canada in April 2016 and customers will be able to preorder their camera starting March 2016. The A68 will offer native support for the company's A-mount lenses.

Sony revealed that the A68 camera features the company's exceptional 4D FOCUS technology, which delivers amazing AF performance in varied shooting surroundings even in very low light conditions as low as EV-2.

4D FOCUS uses 79 autofocus points, which are the most AF points present on any other interchangeable lens camera. It also has a dedicated AF sensor for phase-detection.

"Included are 15 cross points as well as a dedicated F2.8 AF sensor point for dimly-lit scenes.  This all adds up to extremely fast, wide area AF with predictive tracking that locks faithfully onto fast-moving subjects," reported a Sony press release.

The A68 also benefits from Sony's exceptional Translucent Mirror Technology for delivering continuous AF tracking at up to eight frames per second.

"Sony's unique design replaces a DSLR moving mirror with a fixed translucent mirror, which allows ultrafast shooting with continuous use of accurate phase-detection AF," per Sony.

The new camera includes a 24MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor that produces great picture quality for images and also for videos.

The A68 sports a 2.7-inch LCD display, which can be tilted 135-degrees up and 55-degrees down. The camera has a high-contrast OLED viewfinder and built-in image stabilizer. It has a clean HDMI output and audio monitoring and 10 customizable buttons for enhanced user experience.

The A68 is also equipped with a control wheel at the rear, which allows for quick fingertip access to camera settings. The control wheel is also present in Sony's widely praised A7 series camera.

The camera itself will have a price tag of $600 in the U.S. Customers will also have the option to buy the camera with the kit for $700, which will include the DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II lens.

Canadian customers will be able to buy the body of the camera for $800 and they will have to splash $950 if they want the camera with the kit.
