New images and detailed specs of Sony's upcoming Xperia Z3 Compact have leaked. It will feature a 4.6-inch 1080p Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and more.

There's been a growing trend in the Android smartphone world of manufacturers releasing mini versions of flagship smartphones. Samsung recently introduced its Galaxy S5 mini, which uses the same design of the Galaxy S5 in an overall smaller form factor. It features a 4.5-inch 720p display compared to the Galaxy S5's 5.1-inch 1080p display and also includes some of its best features like a built-in heart rate sensor below its 8-megapixel rear camera and a fingerprint scanner that has been embedded into its home button to allow users to unlock the smartphone and authorize PayPal purchases.

HTC launched its One mini 2, which is based off of its current One M8 flagship and it retains the aluminum brushed metal case of its older sibling. Like Samsung, HTC has chosen to use specifications in the One mini 2, a step down from the HTC One M8. The smartphone ships with a 4.5-inch 720p display, less powerful Snapdragon 400 processor, and a single 13-megapixel rear camera instead of the high-end UltraPixel Duo Camera used in the One M8.

Sony is also planning to launch a mini smartphone that will be based off of its upcoming Xperia Z3 flagship. Unlike Samsung and HTC, Sony plans on shipping its Xperia Z3 Compact with the same high-end and powerful specs of the Xperia Z3. A new image of the smartphone has leaked, along with detailed specs of the unannounced smartphone.

XperiaBlog came across new images of the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact that were posted to a Chinese blog. The images show the smartphone inside a clear plastic case and the source revealed some new details regarding the handset.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will reportedly feature a 4.6-inch 1080p Full HD display, the same resolution as its upcoming Xperia Z3 flagship. It will be powered by a snappy quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and 3GB of RAM. The Z3 Compact will also pack in a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS rear camera and stereo speakers.

Sony is expected to officially announce the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact at IFA 2014 in Berlin in September. We'll be sure to keep you posted on both smartphones as more information becomes available.
