HTC officially launched its smaller HTC One mini 2. The smartphone brings some of the best features found in the flagship HTC One M8 smartphone and offers users a smaller handset.

It's been rumored ever since the HTC One M8 was announced that there would eventually be a mini version, just like its predecessor HTC One mini. When HTC introduced the first generation HTC One in 2013, the smartphone was very well received thanks in part to its anodized aluminum unibody case and front-facing speakers. HTC decided to join Samsung once again in the 'mini' smartphone category with its just-launched midrange HTC One mini 2.

HTC is planning to capitalize on the success of its current flagship smartphone and will offer consumers a new, smaller variant of the HTC One M8, which includes the same look and feel as the HTC One M8's brushed aluminum body. It's also packing dual front-facing HTC BoomSound stereo speakers

"The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim into an elegant, compact handset", said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. "Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It's the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact."

The HTC One mini 2 features a 4.5-inch 720p display, runs Android 4.4 with Sense 6 (HTC's custom UI) and BlinkFeed content organizer. It's powered by a 1.2-GH Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1 GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. The One mini 2 ships with 16 GB of internal storage and, just like the HTC One M8, it also has a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards.

The HTC One mini 2's camera capabilities include a 13-megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and the ability to record 1,080p Full HD video and it also features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera that has a strong focus on the whole selfie trend and will help users get the best selfie possible, if that's what you're into. You'll find a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The battery is 2,100 mAh, which HTC claims will provide up to 16.2 hours of talk time and 556 hours of standby time.

HTC announced the HTC One mini 2 will be available in the coming weeks and we recently reported that Verizon is set to get the HTC One mini 2. There's no word on when or which U.S. carriers plan on offering the HTC One mini 2, we'll be sure to keep you posted.
