Finally, AMD brings an official fix to a fan speed issue that was reported by users, now releasing version 15.12 of its Radeon Software Crimson Edition.

The issue appeared last month and seemed to have become quite widespread, users claimed. According to numerous complaints seen on a Reddit thread, the new drivers brought by the newly released Crimson software are causing some graphic cards to adopt a strange fan profile. The result is a limited fan speed of up to 20 percent, which further causes some of the systems to overheat particularly when there is heavy usage.

AMD promised to deliver a fix on the issue and has finally kept its word with the release of the latest version of the software.

"AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 is a notebook reference graphics driver with limited support for system vendor specific features," said AMD. "The latest version of the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 15.12 is designed to support the following Microsoft Windows platforms: Windows 10 (bots 32 and 64-bit versions), Windows 8.1 (both 32 and 64-bit versions) and Windows 7 (both 32 and 64-bit versions with SP1 or even higher)."

AMD also highlighted in a post how many issues it had resolved so far and those which it had already acknowledged. Some of the issues that were resolved by the update include: the visibility of shadowy textures around hills/caves/structures in Star Wars: Battlefront; the texture corruption that users experience while playing Just Cause 3; the too small font size seen in Chinese language installations; the poor AMD Crossfire performance in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3; and more.

In terms of other issues that are still in need of fixes, there are at least 28 of them that were mentioned in the post. These include the marginal increase of power consumption that could occur during video playback; the potential crash when setting to Ultra-High graphics mode in Assassin's Creed Syndicate; the failure to launch the DirectX 12 benchmark on some configurations; minor flickering or corruption at different game location or during the in-game cinematics viewing in Star Wars: Battlefront; and more.

AMD reminds users that they need to run Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or later prior to using the drivers. Moreover, users ought to make sure that the drivers are installed either as Administrator or they have Administrator rights in order to fully install the new version.
