Vodafone UK has announced that Wi-Fi Calling is now available for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Sometimes it can be difficult to get mobile signal on smartphones especially when traveling underground, a building with thick walls etc. With Wi-Fi Calling, customers can make calls from a place where mobile signal is not available but the place has Wi-Fi. The receiver of the phone does not need to have Wi-Fi Calling.

With Vodafone UK, there are no additional charges for using Wi-Fi Calling and all calls made with the service are just deducted from the bundled minute allowance.

Vodafone UK suggests that to take advantage of Wi-Fi Calling a customer should have a pay monthly Red or Red Value Bundle, Red+ or Business Premier and a compatible device. A number of devices support Wi-Fi calling but currently Vodafone UK is offering the services only to Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.

The compatible handsets should have been bought directly from Vodafone from one of its stores, online or via the carrier's customer service team.

Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge customers will have to add Vodafone Wi-Fi Calling to your account.

Compatible device owners should have latest software running on their device.

Customers can check for latest update by going to Settings > About device > Software update > Update now.

Once the smartphone has the latest software update customers will have to connect their handset to a Wi-Fi network.

Customers can go to Settings of their device and select the Wi-Fi icon to connect to an available Wi-Fi network.

Vodafone UK customers will have to text the word "CALLING" to 97888, which is free of charge. The text will add Wi-Fi Calling to the user's account. Customers will receive a confirmation message that Wi-Fi Calling will be added to their account in 24 hours and they will be notified when it is set up.

Customers who are not eligible for Vodafone's Wi-Fi Calling will be notified by text.

Once a customer receives a confirmation text about the setup of Wi-Fi Calling then they will have to switch Wi-Fi Calling on the device's Settings. Customers will have to go to the green call button and choose More.

Vodafone UK subscribers will then have to Choose Settings, scroll down to Wi-Fi Calling, tick the box next to it and confirm enabling Wi-Fi Calling. A green tick mark will appear next to Wi-Fi Calling after tapping OK.

After completing the above process, Wi-Fi Calling will be activated by the carrier in a few hours. Customers will also see a Wi-Fi Calling icon at the top of the screen next to the Wi-Fi symbol, which means that Wi-Fi Calling is enabled on a device.

Vodafone is not the only UK carrier to offer Wi-Fi Calling. EE started Wi-Fi Calling support for smartphones in April 2015. The Lumia 640 was the first device that supported Wi-Fi Calling and soon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge followed suite.
