Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima may have officially left Konami earlier this month, but that isn't preventing the studio and publisher he left behind from creating new content for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's multiplayer component.

In a tweet from the official Metal Gear Online account, Konami has confirmed that the game will be receiving "new maps, Survival, and more!"

So far fan response to the announcement on Twitter seems overwhelmingly positive at a time when many Metal Gear fans now find themselves having a love/hate relationship (or just hate/hate) with Konami after the events that caused Kojima to leave the company and form his new, independent studio. One major question that remains is whether or not the update will be free or if it will be paid DLC. So far, Konami isn't saying, but expect plenty of fan backlash if the new modes and items do come with a price tag.

The tease of a survival mode is certainly interesting, as it would be the first addition of a cooperative mode for the game. Currently Metal Gear Online consists of three game modes: Bounty Hunter (Metal Gear Solid's take on Team Deathmatch), Comm Control (Capture Point) and Cloak and Dagger (an infiltration game type). Each of these modes pit teams of eight against one another, though each mode does require teamwork and coordination to succeed. A full fledged co-op mode, where players must unite to defend an area from approaching enemies, would certainly be a reason for players to put the game back in their disc tray.

Metal Gear Online only shipped with a handful of maps when it arrived in the form of a Metal Gear Solid V patch for consoles on Oct. 6. Players soon discovered many of the multiplayer maps are pulled directly from environments seen in the single-player game. With that being the case, new maps in an update will be a welcome addition. What could Konami mean by "and more!"? Perhaps additional weapons and customization items are on the way as well. Expect more details soon, including how much this DLC could potentially cost.
