As the ZTE rep put it, a year or two ago, the Grand X 3 would have been a flagship smartphone. Spec-wise, that's probably true. The handset's got a 1,280 x 720 5.5-inch display, a 1.3GHz quadcore processor, a 3,080mAh battery, and an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Those aren't exactly the kind of numbers that are going to set the world on fire, but they're not bad - and they're really, really not bad when you consider the fact that the thing is expected to run $130 off contract. That's just madness.

Oh, and the phone is also ZTE's first US handset to feature a USB-C quick charging port.

Build-wise, the phone is just sort of okay. It's pretty lightweight and the rear textured backing is pretty nice - it feels a bit like the sort of material OnePlus puts on the back of its phones. But the handset's plasticky feel does between the budget title a bit more than just about any other part of the handset.

Still. $130. What do you want? The handset is due out later this month.
