While smartwatches certainly were a big part of CES this year, not every watch has to be a smart one. Azimuth, a Swiss watchmaker, has made a number of unusual watches in the past. This time, it has designed a watch inspired by a motorcycle drive train.

While many mechanical watches feature innards that are hidden, the Azimuth SP-1 Crazy Rider takes a different approach.

Inside the watch housing can be seen a chain, which is wrapped around two sprockets which turn in unison. As they turn, a watch hand attached to the chain makes its way around the watch face indicating the hour. A more traditional watch hand in the center of the watch indicates the minute.

Of course, the watch certainly looks cool, but the engineering behind it is equally as cool. As the time goes on, the hour hand is carried along by the chain. While the minute hand appears to be linked to the chain, the ratio would mean that it wouldn't make a rotation fast enough, so it seems instead as though the minute hand is instead connected to another set of gears inside the watch, which allow the minute hand to move faster than the chain would allow for.

All this, however, doesn't come cheap. Those who want the watch for themselves will have to shell out a cool $5,200. It's expected to ship in the fall.
