An oldie but a goodie, the decade-old murder mystery cult hit The Ship is getting remastered into The Ship: Remasted.

Very much with a pun intended, The Ship: Remasted is a remake of the same game released in 2006. A game of cat and mouse, players are rewound back into time during the '20s aboard a cruise ship.

A creepy and illusive Mr. X assigns the player a target to sniff out and take out. The trick is the player isn't the only one assigned a target to kill. The player is also the target of another player. On board a ship and with no place else to go, everyone is at each other's heads with flares as weapons, things can get pretty chaotic aboard The Ship.

One would think that a game released in 2006 then simply remastered into high-definition would be a flop from the get-go, but over 250,000 copies of the game were already sold just last year.

With the right amount of marketing and word-of-mouth vitality, The Ship: Remasted could be brought back to life with tons of new players getting in on the fun.

The game developer, Blazing Griffin, says the upgraded title will launch on Steam Early Access next month. They want to retain the magic of the original as much as possible and are asking for help from the fans.

So far, they've updated the looks of the game, its UI, the layout of security and the values of the needs system. And, they want to know, "Does it still feel like The Ship?" That's where the fans come in.

Between keeping some of the features that players liked best and improving on the ones that could make the game much, much better (such as fixing the slow and complicated connection to the game's servers), Blazing Griffin is taking a slow but sure approach to guiding The Ship in the right direction.

Luckily, players who also purchased the game last year and the years before will be happy to know that Blazing Griffin is offering an existing player discount when The Ship: Remasted launches in February. Until then, we'll have to make do with the teaser trailer below:
