PC gamers will be disappointed as NetherRealm Studios, the developer of action video game Mortal Kombat X, has confirmed that Mortal Kombat XL will only hit Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft Xbox One.

Mortal Kombat X made it way to the shelves in April 2015 and it was available for Microsoft Windows, PS4 and Xbox One. The game received immense popularity in the gaming industry and it was one of the best-selling games of 2015.

However, the PC version of the game was plagued with bugs since launch. Many PC gamers complained of connectivity problems and the game developer issued a patch to fix the prevalent issues. Gamers who downloaded the patch then complained that following the download they lost saved games.

The connectivity issues with the PC version of Mortal Kombat X were so bad that NetherRealm Studios ended up gifting 10,000 free Krypt Koins to PC gamers.

Earlier in January, the game developer announced that Mortal Kombat XL will be released in March this year. The game is not a sequel to Mortal Kombat X but includes all previously released downloadable content (DLC) and the upcoming Kombat Pack 2.

Tyler Lansdown, NetherRealm's community manager, confirmed in a forum that Mortal Kombat XL will not be available on PC.

"Mortal Kombat XL and Kombat Pack 2 will [be] available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only," says Lansdown.

Releasing Mortal Kombat XL only for consoles should not come as a surprise after the dismal performance of the game's PC version. Moreover, the popularity of PC games is declining and more people prefer playing games on consoles.

However, there may be thousands of people who still prefer playing games on a PC and these gamers will be disappointed that Mortal Kombat XL will not hit the PC. Some people have also queried about the PC version of the game on various forums.

"Will PC be getting Enhanced Online or any further patches though?" says a gamer.

"As a consumer, this is awful. PC started off extremely bad and now that KP2 is not coming it's the nail in the coffin. I love this game too much to not buy a copy on Xbox One to play with the KP2 characters, but I will never buy another WB game for PC. That last statement probably goes without saying," says another gamer on TestYourMight.

Some gamers also believe that support for the PC version of Mortal Kombat X will totally stop soon after the release of Mortal Kombat XL in March.

Not releasing Mortal Kombat XL for PC may ignite more controversy in the gaming industry as PC gamers would not receive a refund for the game they have purchased that is plagued with bugs.
