Gamers are always looking for challenges. It's why speedruns are so popular. It's also why we've seen players try to tackle notoriously difficult games like Bloodborne or Destiny's raid bosses uses controllers that were in no way meant to be used for those games.

This latest example of that phenomenon might be the craziest yet. There are plenty of games that use voice controls. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time isn't one of them. That, however, hasn't stopped one gamer from doing just that. With some "technological wizardry", streamer MonotoneTim played Ocarina of Time for more than six hours during a livestream by playing an actual ocarina.

And we don't mean pressing buttons installed on an ocarina that is actually a custom video game controller. We mean he played a musical woodwind instrument modified to work as a controller. As in, he plays notes with his mouth and those notes correspond to button inputs.

It's about as hard as it sounds. He struggles at first, as he tries to remember which notes correspond to which buttons in the game. Eventually he gets the hang of it and even manages to beat a few bosses, despite being unable to move and use an item at the same time thanks to the ocarina controller's limitations. While it makes the game itself way more difficult, perhaps it makes the ocarina playing segments way easier?

If you're looking for a way to play video games while also increasing your lung capacity, you may have found your golden ticket. We don't expect MonotoneTim's revolutionary play style to catch on anytime soon, but it sure is entertaining to watch. You can watch the entire stream below, or watch the video underneath it to see how he conquered the game's first boss.
